Keeping Girls in School After COVID-19
In the aftermath of COVID-19-related school closures in Malawi, Future Support Network (FSN) has implemented targeted interventions to support the safe return and retention of adolescent girls in education. Evidence from the field indicates that girls are disproportionately affected by barriers such as inadequate access to menstrual hygiene materials, increased domestic responsibilities, and limited household support, all of which contribute to heightened risks of school dropout. In response, FSN is delivering hygiene kits to improve menstrual hygiene management, providing mentorship and psychosocial support to learners, and engaging parents and guardians to strengthen household and community-level support for continued education. These integrated interventions are aimed at improving school retention rates among vulnerable girls, enhancing learner well-being, and contributing to improved educational outcomes within targeted communities.
